Jim Henry Inducted into SMA Hall of Honor
In July, the Southwest Meat Association (SMA) inducted Jim Henry into its new Hall of Honor at the 60th Annual Convention and Suppliers’ Showcase in Bastrop, TX. At their Chairman’s Dinner, SMA announced the formation of a Hall of Honor, “designed to recognize the contributions of impactful leaders whose dedication, loyalty, and hard work laid the foundation upon which 60 years of success were built,” explained Dr. Joe Harris, SMA President/CEO. Jim Henry was honored to be included in the inaugural group of six inductees.
Dr. Harris inducted Jim Henry with the following words:
Jim Henry is, to the best of anyone’s knowledge, the longest-tenured member of SMA. When SMA was founded in 1957, Jim worked for Enterprise before he formed Jim Henry Enterprises. Jim’s many decades of experience in the meat industry have given him a unique perspective and allowed him to witness countless monumental changes in the processing of meat products. Jim Henry has been the “go-to” person for anything related to buying, selling, re-furbishing, troubleshooting, or repairing meat processing equipment. He is a pioneer in terms of customer service. His passionate devotion to serving his customers led many of them to become his closest lifelong friends. Jim is a highly respected leader and mentor within SMA, serving as Chairman of the Associate Members in 1973-74 and 1982-83. The true affection and the high regard with which SMA members hold him are on display any time they gather for an SMA convention. At 91 years young, Jim Henry has attended 58 of SMA’s 60 annual conventions, and has been a fixture around the association for longer than most of its members have been alive. He remains very proud of his affiliation with SMA.
